Anti-Stats for Plastics | SABO®STAT

Anti-static additives or antistats prevent the buildup of static charges in plastics and offer a number of practical benefits to plastic compounders, film producers, molders, and downstream customers. These include fewer problems in packaging and transport of plastics, reduced risk of electrical discharges (which can cause electrical shocks, damage to electronic components, fires, and explosions), improved processing efficiency, and reduced dust pick-up. Anti-stats are also used in color masterbatches and plastic compounds as pigment dispersing agents.

Plastic materials are inherently non-conductive and can build up significant static charge during processing operations, handling, and during end-use. Static charge buildup can cause problems with pellet feeding and film cling. Electrostatic discharges are especially problematic, and can lead to damage to electronic components and electrical shocks to workers. Discharges also present a serious safety hazard in the presence of flammable vapors or dusts, and can lead to fire or explosion.

Anti-stats are incorporated directly into the polymer matrix during extrusion compounding operations or in the form of a masterbatch. The additive molecules are designed to migrate to the surface of the part or film and attract water, which provides a conductive path to dissipate static charge. The additives can also reduce static charge build-up through a lubrication effect at surfaces, especially in films.

SABO®STAT A 300High performance, ethoxylated alkyl amine ester that provides a longer-term anti-static effect as compared to glycerol monostearate and ethoxylated alkyl amine anti-stats. It also provides synergistic performance when used in combination with glycerol monostearate and low volatility for less fuming during melt processing operations. The pastille product form is easy to handle and dose.
SABO®STAT AL 100Liquid ethoxylated alkylamine anti-stat for use in polyolefins (PE, LDPE, PP) and styrenic polymers (ABS, HIPS, SAN). It is also effective as an anti-fog additive in bi-axially oriented and cast PP films. The product is useful as a dispersing agent for pigments in plastic masterbatches and compounds.

The product is ideal for use as an anti-stat in electronics packaging applications due to its low basicity. Available in a pellet form for easy handling and dosing.
